About Brett

Brett grew up in Madison, Wisconsin where he enjoyed participating in soccer, track, and hockey. In the early 90s Brett worked as a correctional officer and also as a special agent with Wisconsin Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement.

Brett moved to Washington in 1996 to continue his law enforcement career with the City of Seattle Police Department. During his 18 year career with SPD Brett was involved with many of Seattle’s memorable events including the “Hollywood” bank robber shootout, the 1998 Aurora bus crash, the WTO riots, the Kingdome implosion, the Nisqually earthquake, and many others.

Brett progressed through SPD’s ranks from officer to lieutenant, and served in SPD’s Office of Professional (now Police) Accountability and SPD’s Audit, Policy and Research Section during a crucial period following a settlement agreement with the US Department of Justice.

While working full-time for SPD, Brett completed law school and became a member of the Washington Bar in 2008. Brett maintained a small solo law practice mainly focused on pro-bono and “low-bono” clients.

Brett lives in Lake Stevens with his wife, Jeanine and their labs, Ella and Max . Brett and Jeanine enjoy hiking, traveling, and sampling our fantastic Washington wines. Their adult children have careers in the medical field, non-profits, and the US Military.
